Le Parlement a adopté à l'unanimité, lundi 7 juillet, une loi permettant la restitution du tambour parleur « Djidji Ayôkwé » à la Côte d'Ivoire, volé par la France il y a plus d'un siècle, et officiellement réclamé par Abidjan depuis 6 ans. Ce vote permet de déclasser ce bien culturel, en dérogeant au principe d'inaliénabilité des collections publiques, ouvrant la voie à sa restitution dans l'année. Il contribue à « la réparation d'une extorsion », selon Bertrand Sorre (Renaissance), rapporteur du texte. A cette occasion, de nombreux députés ont appelé à débattre au plus vite d'une loi-cadre, promise par Emmanuel Macron, pour faciliter et accélérer les restitutions d'œuvres pillées pendant la colonisation.

Cet imposant instrument de 430 kilos et 3 mètres de long sommeille depuis plus de 100 ans dans les réserves du musée du Quai Branly à Paris, après avoir fait l'objet d'une restauration en vue de son transfert. Confisqué en 1916 par l'armée française à la communauté EBRIE, le « Djidji Ayôkwé » devait être le tout premier bénéficiaire de la loi-cadre accélérant la restitution des œuvres d'art pillées en Afrique à l'époque coloniale.

This vote allows the declassification of this cultural asset, making an exception to the principle of inalienability of public collections, thereby paving the way for its return within the year. It contributes to « the reparation of an extortion, » according to Bertrand Sorre (Renaissance), the bill's rapporteur. On this occasion, many MPs called for an urgent debate on a comprehensive law—promised by Emmanuel Macron—to facilitate and accelerate the restitution of artworks looted during colonization.

This massive instrument, weighing 430 kilograms and measuring 3 meters long, has been stored for over 100 years in the reserves of the Quai Branly Museum in Paris, after undergoing restoration in preparation for its transfer. Seized in 1916 by the French army from the EBRIE community, the « Djidji Ayôkwé » was supposed to be the very first beneficiary of the proposed framework law to accelerate the restitution of artworks looted from Africa during the colonial era.
